Exquisite stoneware vase of ‘gu’-like shape by the honoured artist Minegishi Seikô (1952-2023) with an undulating calyx-shaped mouth and covered by his trademark celadon glaze of grey-greenish colour. This high quality ‘kan’nyû’-type craquelé glaze looks like many stacked crystalized flakes surrounded by a faint reddish line. Creating a beautiful depth.
The upper and lower rims, and the lower lying parts of the low relief lobed neck accentuated by smoky grey lines. The smooth foot decorated with two subtle rows of dots in the same shade.
The bottom with an unglazed cartouche sealed by the artist.
Minegishi Seikô was born in 1952 in Misato City, Saitama Prefecture. He specialised in craquelure celadon glaze, which was infamously difficult to achieve. His thickly applied glazes ranged from the classical range of celadon colours from pale green to grey to beige and were characterised by kan’nyū, or deep crackling that served to emphasise his elegant shapes.

In 1956, Kaneshige was certified as a Living National Treasure (Important Intangible Cultural Heritage) for his work in Bizen Ware pottery/ceramics. Bizen Ware is a type of Japanese pottery traditionally from the Bizen province, presently a part of the Okayama prefecture. It is considered one of the Six Ancient Japanese Kilns (along with Echizen ware, Seto ware, Shigaraki ware, Tamba ware, and Tokoname ware).
The piece is signed/ sealed on the base with one of Kaneshige's traditional incised marks.

Chinese Stoneware Jar Celadon fluted detail, Ming Dynasty 14th to 16th Century

This is a very old interesting provincial Chinese stoneware Celadon Jar, probably Longquan, with fluted or ribbed decoration, which we date to the Ming Dynasty, between the 14th and 16th Centuries.
The Jar has an interesting circular baluster shape with an open everted rim and low foot. It has been decorated with moulded vertical flutes or ribs to its lower half. The base is concave and fairly deep.
The Jar has a mossy-olive green colour having a celadon glaze which runs from the base to the upper rim as it would have been glazed upside down, with some glaze around the top section of the inner rim. Unglazed parts fire to a terracotta brown colour at the rim, lower body and the foot rim.
The piece is unmarked but for similar pieces see the superb book: Chinese Ceramics by He Li published by Thames & Hudson, 1996; pages 164 to 184.

An exquisite, beautifully crafted Japanese pottery vase by master potter Shoji Hamada featuring Hamada's famous signature tenmoku glaze with kaki trailing. The original Hamada signed and sealed wood storage box is included as well as the written appraised signature of his son Shinsaku Hamada. The vase also comes with a printed artist profile/sales brochure of Hamada (featuring some of his other presumably available work). It appears this piece was offered at the Keio Department store in Shinjuku, Tokyo. At first glance, this may seem odd but in fact, this is quite an honor in Japan. This store is known for selling and exhibiting such high-profile artists and potters as Bernard Leach, Lucie Rie, Gyokudo Kawai, Shiko Munakata, Kawai Kanjiro, and Rosanjin Kitaoji. A major goal of many ceramic artists in Japan is to have a one-man exhibition in a department store. For many Westerners, this is a strange concept. Some of the larger department stores have up to three or four dedicated galleries showing concurrent art exhibitions. A well-known artist's exhibition can bring in hundreds, often thousands, of customers to a store and increase revenue for other sales in the millions-of-yen range. An unusually large Vietnamese celadon glazed stoneware bowl with carved lotus petal design, Ly or Tran Dynasty, 13th - 14th century, Vietnam.
The large bowl or offering vessel of generous proportions, rising on a short, unglazed foot ring, revealing the reddish buff stoneware body. The globular body elegantly tapered. The lower section deeply carved with a traditional stylized lotus petal design, a band of incised lines above. The upper section of the vessel ribbed, and carved with long, elegant lotus petals that taper upwards, terminating in rounded ends. Another band of incised lines circumscribe the mouth.
The vessel glazed in a wonderful olive celadon glaze. The glaze stopping neatly at the mouth rim. The transparent celadon glaze thinning slightly along the raised sections, and pooling in the recesses, adding additional depth and texture. The celadon with wonderful yellow undertones, giving an overall olive hue.

Rakusai Takahashi III (1898-1976) is universally considered one of the most important Japanese potters of the 20th century. In 1964 he was named a human cultural treasure and bestowed a Shiga Prefectural Intangible Cultural Property. This is an exceptionally large English mid-19th century Victorian Ironstone Platter decorated in a beautifully detailed Japanese Imari pattern. The enameling is sharp with deep coloration and the overlaid gold is in very good original condition. The platter is marked "Stone China" on the reverse. The platter is in very good overall condition with normal patination and very minimal losses to the painted decoration. There is a bit of wear to the underside of the rim which does not detract from the value of the platter. Platers of this size are very uncommon and desirable.
