Pair of Petite Chinese Ginger Jars with Spider Chrysanthemums

About

This pair of Qing-dynasty ginger jars with lids pays colorful tribute to its time-honored form in style of wucai ware. Translated as “five-color,” wucai was an innovation of the Ming dynasty that employed a series of glazes to create brilliantly colored ceramics. These jars began with an underglaze of blue, which was then overglazed with a variety of rich enamel-like colors and decorated with fine outlines. Decorated with stylized spider chrysanthemums, symbols of autumn and longevity, the whimsical jars bring a bright accent to any room.
