19th Century Japanese Wheeled Merchant Tansu Chest

About

This impressive Edo period tansu was made in the early to mid-19th century. It is a difficult to find Classic merchant's chest with the door slats in the "stone - tatami" pattern reserved for influential or privileged merchants. The hand-wrought hardware is all intact and original and is both decorative and is designed to protect the principal mortise and tenon joints. It locks with its original key.
