Anglo-Indian hardwood three-panel Screen. This is a beautifully carved sculptural hardwood Anglo-Indian Wooden Mughal screen in Victorian colonial Raj. This is a beautifully carved sculptural hardwood Anglo-Indian screen featuring intricately carved floral-foliage fretwork, Fine quality late 19th century (circa 1880) Anglo Indian Mughal style profusely carved three fold screen from Northern India. Large and elaborate pierced carved with panels of Mughal floral and bird designs. This highly decorative screen consists of panels joined to create a screen, each panel having a carved and pierced crest to the top with birds, floral and foliate decoration. The sections consists of pierced panels of ‘pinjra’ work, this meaning birdcage, surrounded by a carved geometric edge. Each panel is supported by Moorish style arcaded legs with carved floral decoration. This screen takes influence from Northern India, the area of Simla renowned for ‘pinjra’ work, resulting in a highly decorative fine piece of work. This screen is in excellent condition for age, is of stable construction and can go straight into a home, could be used as a wall decor or as a headboard bed. Reference: a similar screen, presently in the V&A Collection, can be found in the book: ‘Furniture from British India and Ceylon’ by Amin Jaffer pages 308-309 Dimensions each panel: Height 67", 19.5" wide.
