Hand-Painted Chinoiserie and Red Lacquer Armoire from China, 19th Century

A 19th century hand-painted chinoiserie and red lacquer armoire from China. This Chinese 19th century armoire displays a red lacquer and hand-painted gilt chinoiserie designs. The rectangular armoire rests on four legs linked on the sides by two stretchers. The piece is varnished with a red lacquer. The front edge showcases gilt foliage designs, and the two doors feature hand-painted gilt chinoiserie, perhaps a palace scene with Chinese characters. The doors open thanks to simple ring pulls that sit on a stylish brass plate with a slide lock. This Chinese 19th century hand-painted chinoiserie and red lacquer armoire would be an uncommon storage unit in most homes, particularly in a living room or perhaps even a bedroom for storing bedding or towels.
