Korean Blanket Chest

About the Item

This brightly ornamented Korean chest was used to hold blankets, garments and other gifts that would be presented to the newlyweds as part of the dowry. It has a fall-front opening and large metal handles for carrying on either side. The elaborate white brass hardware is made from a tin alloy and has been engraved with auspicious patterns. The interior of the chest has been cleaned and sealed with lacquer. Lock hardware and handles are original. Wear consistent with age and use.
