Pair of Early 20th Century Chinese Door Panels

About the Item

A pair of early 20th century door panels from Fujian province, China. The top panels have beautiful relief carvings of cherry blossoms, Buddha's citron and pumpkins. The floral lattice pattern in the main section is quite unusual for doors from this region. There are some visible damage on one of the frames but it is still structural sturdy, therefore it had been left as it is, in its original condition. The damage is shown in one of the photos. The doors were painted at one point with some bright colours like orange, white and some blue, but they had mostly faded away, leaving behind some pastel-coloured traces. A corner of the floral lattice pattern on one door is broken, but this can be repaired upon request.

The Chinese words translate into "family of glory", this was to given to the household as a member of the family had retired from the military, to recognise his contribution to the country; it could also had been given to the family if the soldier was sacrificed during his service. Next to it is a small blue plate...
