About the Item

The long low table, breached naturally into silver color by the age, with wabi sabi & primitive look. Originally made as Tachidai (tachi-ita / okidai), kimono-sewing table. Made circa 1900s - 20s (late Meiji - Taisho - early Showa period) estimated from the material & condition. Actual item weight : 24.26 lb (11 kg) *** We're eco-friendly, organic-oriented vintage wood furniture & fitting seller. Avoiding the harsh chemicals as much as possible, using organic & traditional materials in the whole process, especially cleaning, repaint / refinish. - using non-toxic, eco-friendly method when cleaning & repairing the item - using organic & traditional materials (beeswax, linseed oil, persimmon tannin, burnt pine ink, etc) for repainted/re-finished items - repairing the necessary parts for long-lasting use

156 to 159 years-old antique low writing desk with 2 drawers. product of Keio period (1865-1868), which is the last 3 years of Edo era. estimate from the kanji character "Keio (慶應)", remains on the outside of the bottom panel of the drawer (see photos). original urushi lacquer remains thick & glossy on the deep-grained surface, in good condition. Smooth opening & closing operation on both drawers. The bottom bar on the left leg has been replaced by seller with traditional, same-to-original wood joinery technique (nimai hozo, double mortise & tenon joints), without adhesive.
