Antique Edo Period Japanese Samurai Iron Stirrups with Brass or Bronze Inlay

About the Item

A pair of antique Edo period (1603–1867) Japanese Samurai Abumis (stirrups for horseback-riding) expertly crafted out of cast iron with brass or bronze inlay in the form of a stylized flower or fruit The interior of the stirrup, where the rider would place his feet, is red lacquer that has been crackled with age. Condition commensurate with age and use. Iron is pock marked from use. Red lacquer is crackled from wear and age. When you tip the stirrup back and forth small particles of dirt fall out.
