Indian Jhansi, Bundelkhand Bronze Toy Horse Figure
About the Item
A good antique bronze temple horse on wheels toy originating from Jhansi City in Bundelkhand in Northern India and dating from the 19th century. The Hindu region of Bundelkhand is well known for its bronzes this early example is cast in bronze using the lost wax process. The horse is mounted on a platform raised on four five spoked wheels which run freely on loose fitting axles. The horse is draped with a harness and saddle and has a wonderful aged patina to the finish. There are elements of very old repairs to the platform however a wonderful period piece to display or as a desk paperweight.
Provenance: acquired in the British Art Market
In good condition with some old repairs to the platform base along with age wear and fatigue to the metal.
