Japanese Meiji Cloisonne Lidded Jar , 19th Century

About

An antique Japanese lidded jar possibly a koro or tea caddy decorated with birds and wisteria alongside a pond dating from the Meiji period and 19th century. The body of the jar is decorated with birds set amidst flowering wisteria alongside a pond with flowering iris's. The scene is finely detailed in colored enamels and set against a black ground with fine aventrine inclusions. The cover is similarly decorated with a butterfly and the finial is also finished in similar enamels. The jar has a small colored floral design to the base set against a blue ground and is not marked.
