Korean Goryeo Dynasty Bronze Bowl and Cover with Green Patina, 13th Century
A fine Korean spun bronze bowl and cover with nice malachite green patina, Goryeo Dynasty, 13th century. The simple bowl of nearly globular form, with a short, slightly splayed foot, wide body, and domed lid topped with a small knob finial. The entirety covered in a lush deep green malachite patina with scattered soil adhesions. The interior of the lid featuring an even more vibrant patina of malachite green, with some of the original bronze showing through. Crafted of spun bronze, a technique in which a block of heated bronze is spun upon a lathe or wheel to extrude the shape. The thinness of the body and the spiral marking to the foot of the bowl are both tell tale signs of spun bronze. Provenance: The Hellen and Joe Darion Collection, NY.
