Large Kashmiri Copper Repousse Footed Bowl, Early 20th Century
About the Item
A large and boldly decorated Kashmiri repousse copper bowl, early 20th century, Kashmir.
Set upon a short pedestal foot, the copper bowl features high walls and a slightly everted rim. The body of the bowl is decorated in wonderful raised repousse work, with a pattern of women in traditional dress between large floral and foliate scrolls. A beautiful stylized flower petal design to the underside.
The interior of the bowl lined with a tinned copper. The foot of the bowl clad in tinned copper with a ribbed design.
The bowl has wonderful texture from all the repousse work. The copper displays a beautiful patina, with the raised repousse areas slightly polished, while the recessed areas retain their darker tarnish for an alluring effect that plays beautifully in the light.
