Large Meiji Period Iron Tea Pot, Japan

About

Large Meiji Period Iron Tea Pot, Japan This very large iron tea pot would have been used outdoors to heat water over a large fire. There is a flying crane depicted on one side and a celestial body, perhaps the moon, setting in a wave-filled sea on the other. A ring and a wire was used to hold the lid on the handle; I've removed it in the primary image because it can easily be cut off, if desired. The piece weighs 35 pounds.
