Pair of Chinese Canopy Bed Curtain Hooks with Money Toads
About the Item
This fantastic pair of etched brass hooks recreates those used throughout the Qing dynasty to hold open the gauzy curtains of traditional canopy beds. Each of the large hooks is affixed to an etching of the Daoist immortal Liu Hai and his animal companion, the three-legged Money Toad. Known as Jin Chan, the Money Toad is a mythical creature with the ability to spit gold coins. Liu Hai is shown wearing a loosely draped robe of brocade silks and holding a long ribbon strung with coins. As symbols of wealth and prosperity, having an image of this duo in your home or office is believed to greatly improve your chance of receiving good fortune.
