Antique Japanese Fireman's Water Bucket and Tools, Edo Period, 19th Century

About the Item

In ancient Japan fires are a constant occurrence and the Japanese built their furniture and houses with this in mind. Firemen were essential and revered, and their equipment was carefully maintained and cared for. This bucket and "shobo" (water spray) pump was owned by one Adachi Hisa and dates to May, Meiji 15 (1882). Constructed of wood and iron fittings.
