Chinese Wooden Headrest, c. 1900

About the Item

Made of Chinese northern elmwood, this smooth block of wood was once used by an upper-class woman as a headrest. The soft curve and height of the block not only supported her head and neck at rest, it also helped to preserve her intricate hairstyle. Rustic and conversation-sparking, the headrest displays well on a bookcase, desk or side table.
