Late 19th-Early 20th Century Carved Chinese Agate Brush Washer on Rosewood Stand

From the Estate of C.Z. Guest. This fine small washer carved from naturally banded agate in the form of a lotus leaf is carved top and bottom with natural details and to good effect showing off the many natural colors and striations of the stone. Stepped up on a detail carved and pierced rosewood stand made to conform to this items shape the piece has presence and charm Mrs Guest had a fondness for great clothes, French furniture, beautiful paintings, sculptural details, fine fabrics and small Chinese accessories. She set the tone for many socially prominent women thru the 1950s-1960s. C. Z. Guest collected widely many kinds of things and housed them in New York and Palm Beach homes.
