About

In many southeast Asian cultures, offering guests a betel quid to chew was the fundamental symbol of hospitality. A blend of leaves, nuts, seasonings, and sometimes tobacco, betel was kept in finely worked and decorated boxes. These round betel boxes are painted with concentric circles of red and black lacquer, delineated by finely etched lines that were likely once filled with gold pigment. Still vibrant after a century of use, the petite boxes are wonderful as simple way to store jewelry or other precious smalls. Additional dimensions: Largest box 5.5" diameter x 4.25" height Medium box 4" diameter x 3" height Smallest box 3" diameter x 1.5" height.
