Antique Chinese Export Reverse Painting on Glass

About the Item

A charming late 19th-century to early 20th-century, Chinese export reverse glass painting, depicting a noblewoman within a courtyard setting with a kid who is holding a lotus, walking in the courtyard before a dividing wall and an opening with a circular form. Passing the opening, you will discover a completely new scenery within this traditional garden in a Chinese mansion. The painting comes with its original hardwood frame and the old pins in the back of the panel. Reverse glass pictures became fashionable in the 18th century. Glass panels were sent from Europe to China by sea, where they were painted to order, framed, and then returned to the West for inclusion in Chinese-inspired interiors.
