This work unusual for being done in oil on canvas is from the late period of the Manchu Rule and may in fact be more about a desire for the glory days of Chinese imperial rule then a specific family portrait completed of living members of a clan. Well accomplished if somewhat idealized the work shows extended members of a family 9 in all set within a traditional Chinese interior. Of note the house hold interior scene is enlivened by a view outside to an idyllic landscape setting creating a confined yet expansive view all in one. The painting is done in flat colors, transparent washes and some gilded highlights creating a colorful and dynamic image. Framed in a black and gilded frame and piece is ready to hang. Very good condition with colors bright and well detailed.
