Japanese Asian Four-Panel Folding Byobu Showa Screen Tale of Genji & Cherry Tree

About the Item

A gorgeous four-panel Japanese Byobu folding screen depicting a scene from the Classic Japanese narrative "Tale of Genji" (the beautifully clad woman in the flowing kimono could very well be Lady Murasaki) featuring various characters in a cherry blossom tree filled lakeside landscape setting. The rich colors, gold leaf and beautiful hand painted detail (see the lovely kimonos) of the figures, birds and blooming cherry blossom flowers really make this quite an attractive work. The screen is signed (in black ink) and sealed (in red) by the artist. Original decorative period brass hardware adds another wonderful touch. Would be a great addition to any Japanese/Asian art or screen collection or be sure to stand out in almost any setting whether used as a room divider or hung on the wall as a work of art. Likely mid to late Showa period (1926-1989). Approximate dimensions when fully extended: 36" high, 70.5" wide, .75" deep Approximate folded dimensions: 36" high, 18" wide, 2.75" deep.
