Impressive Japanese two-panel Meiji period screen depicting a prowling tiger in a bamboo grove. Painted in the Nihonga school style, late 19th century. Ink and color pigments on handcrafted paper. Signed by artist Ms. Mutobe Kiho (Japanese b. 1877) with two seals on the bottom left. Kiho was born in Kyoto, Japan and studied under Takeuchi Seiho. Set in a lacquered wood frame with a geometric pattern silk brocade border in brown and gold. The back of the screen is lined with fabric. From an estate in San Francisco, CA.
