Japanese Six Panel Screen: the Burning of Nanto Temple
About the Item
A scene from the 12th century Heike wars. Ruler Taira Shigehira ordered an attack on those who opposed his rule. During the battle, Nanto Temple, in Nara, was burned to the ground. This dramatic scene is beautifully painted with mineral pigment and gold flake on silk in a natural wood trim with its original bronze hardware. Signature and seal read: So
