Title: Hakubutsu shinpen Period: Meiji era (1882) About Feng Shui Feng Shui is a Chinese system of geomancy believed to use the laws of both heaven and earth and was developed to improve life by receiving positive “Qi” energy spirits or encouraging them to pass through your home in a positive manner. The original designation for this discipline is Kan Yu- literally meaning Tao of heaven and earth. Feng Shui literally translates as “wind-water” in English. Historically it was widely used to orient buildings- often spiritually significant structures such as tombs but also dwellings and in an auspicious manner. Depending upon the particular style, an auspicious site could be determined by references to local features such as bodies of water, hills or mountains, , stars or compass directions. This tradition was suppressed in China during the cultural revolution but in modern days has increased in popularity and is widely practiced today. Each woodblock print was folded and inserted accordion style so you may notice normal and original almost imperceptible fold lines mid section as well as toned areas from appropriate age.
