Antique Japanese Framed Woodblock Print Depicting a Woman in the Woods
About the Item
An antique Japanese woodblock print from the 19th century depicting a woman in the woods. Created in Japan during the 19th century, this woodblock print showcases an outdoor scene depicting a white haired woman walking in the woods. Coming from the right, she is heading towards a grouping of trees whose dark leaves, partially hidden by a calligraphy insert, provide a perfect contrast to the lights tones of the rest of the composition. The process of woodblock printing would start with an artist’s drawing that would be transferred from paper to a cherry-wood block, which was carved and then inked, before blank sheets of paper were laid on top. Set inside a black frame and secured under glass, this Japanese 19th century woodblock print will be a great addition to any wall, perhaps hung above a credenza, altar table or sofa.
