Japanese Ranma Wood Carving Featuring "Birds in Flight" & "Long Blades of Grass"

About the Item

Japanese Ranma are traditionally positioned in open space, above a doorway, or in a high open area to enjoy. What is unique about this Ranma is that carvings on one side are "Birds in Flight" and on the other side are "Long Blades of Silver Grass" in a marshland. The execution of the carving of "Birds in Flight" and "Long Blades of Silver Grass" on cryptomeria takes this art to one step beyond as if to see the birds flying in a marshland. Very unusual and enticing. Ranma traditionally have a frame-around. However, sometimes in its provenance/history, that was removed. How wonderful that the beauty of this work was preserved by someone. To give depth perception, wood blocks were added for wall mounting. Soft spotlight and resultant shadows on the wall can be used to showcase the natural wear of entire Ranma, hand carved birds and grass which were applied. Detailed photos with high resolution are provided for up close viewing.
