Qing Dynasty Hand-Carved 19th Century Chinese Stone Foo Dog Lion Statue

About

A 19th century Chinese Qing dynasty (1644-1911) hand-carved stone foo dog sculpture playing with a cub. The name foo dog is actually a mistake made in the west. In reality these imperial Chinese guardians are lions, which were believed to have powerful mythic, protective benefits and often sat outside government buildings and temples. This piece was hand-carved in the Qing dynasty style and sits on a stone base. Her left paw plays with a foo dog cub. This piece also features a stand upon which a candle or a vase might be placed. This 19th century Qing Dynasty hand-carved Chinese stone Foo dog will bring an exotic touch to any home, perhaps placed in an entranceway or front porch.
