$6,300

About

A wonderfully modeled painted pottery figure of horse and rider, Tang Dynasty (618-906 AD), circa 9th century, China. TL tested by Oxford Authentication. A Classic representation of a Tang Dynasty horse and rider, both figures expressive, with wonderful molded and painted details. The elegant and noble horse is sculpted in the typical Tang Dynasty style, with nice musculature, and portrayed standing foursquare upon an integral plinth, its head slightly turned to one side, mouth open. The mustachioed rider, presumably a Tang Dynasty nobleman or official, sits upright in the saddle. He is dressed in an orange tunic with green trim, and high black boots. His hands clasped in front of him. The rider also with his head turned, gazing off into the distance.
