Japanese Woven Linen Kimono with Katazome Stencil Dyes
About the Item
On offer is a Japanese summer kimono woven from indigo blue linen with ivory color fine stripes patterns with apparently darker weft additions. The elegant geometrical pattern is accentuated with stenciled white pattern of a floral design, likely peony blossom, a demanding technique called Katazome in Japanese. It adds another layer of delicate ornament to the garment. The kimono is lined with two colors of silk, meticulously hand finished and likely dated to late Meiji to early Taisho period circa 1900-1930s. When hanging as shown, it measures 49" w x 58" h.
