About the Item

This architectural valance from the 19th century is beautifully carved in multiple dimensions with lotus, flora, and fruits on the vine and centered with a pearl of wisdom. It beautifully represents the masterful craftsmanship sought by 19th century wealthy homeowners in China's Shanxi province, who would have commissioned it as an architectural detail for their courtyard home at the height of the Qing dynasty.
