Superb Heavy Industrial Steel Door with Original Hinges Red Patina British, 1900

About the Item

What a door! Manufactured by Mather & Platt Ltd of Manchester, England. The doors stands at over 7ft high and nearly 5ft wide, the steel patchwork is all intact and the door is finished in its original red paint with a wonderful aged patina. The original cast iron hinges are bolted through the door and have the original hinge pins. The latch mechanism is also complete and in working order. Established in 1852 Mather & Platt became leaders in fire sprinkler systems and related products and in 1898 they merged with Dowson Taylor & Co to further increase their dominance in the fire protection market. This door which has a name plaque of both companies dates to circa 1900. A magnificent decorative piece, would make a wonderful sliding door or wall art.
