French 'Hercules Spinning at Omphale's Feet' Fireback / Backsplash
About the Item
20th century French Napoleon III style fireback with Hercules spinning at Omphale's feet.
Hercules, who was disguised as a woman, was sold by Mercury (god of commerce) as a slave to Omphale. Hercules and Omphale fell in love and had a son, the first Lydian king, founder of the dynasty of Heraclides.
The fireback is made of cast iron and has a natural brown patina. Upon request it can be made black / pewter. The fireback is in a good condition and does not have cracks.
