18th Century Cast Iron Adam Style Register Grate

About the Item

An 18th century cast and wrought iron register grate. The frieze to the outer frame is divided into three panels each containing a swagged oval paterae it is flanked by a pair of fluted columns which are entwined by stylised vines beneath composite capitals, capped with swagged lidded urns. The wrought iron bar set is finished off with a simple pierced apron and topped off by a pair of Acanthus decorated urn finials. English, circa 1780. Note, the front is this piece is a single casting, this has a mistake dating from when it was originally cast, in that one of the footblocks is shorter than the other. This original mistake could be rectified if desired
