Gothic Revival Carved Oak Fireplace
About the Item
A tall and unique Gothic Revival oak fireplace mantel together with the original Kilkenny black marble curved fender. The high stepped shelf has a central podium flanked by two demilune podium undercarved with foliate detail beneath which is a castellated border centred by a keystone with a plain shield. The deeply carved foliate spandrels frame the arched opening with its English marble ingrounds. The tall oak jambs, with small ebonized columns, are supported on sturdy double footblocks. English, circa 1850.
