About

This phenomenal, carved limestone bench from Italy has a myriad of stunning motifs. It has been designed in a curve, with the back and sides fully enclosed down to the conforming limestone platform. The sides have pinecone finials atop two square posts with grapevines in relief. Griffins, with the wings of an eagle and the body of a lion are depicted in relief on the sides and interior of the bench, as supports. The inside back panels are beautifully decorated with the same motifs on each. Identical posts with circular finials separate each panel. The armrests follow the shape of the top of the Griffins’ wings with C-scrolls at the top. The bench has developed a great patina from several years of exposure in a lush garden.

Measures: H=54, maximum length=120 1/2, depth at sides=27 5/8, overall front to back max depth=37, seat height=17 1/2.
