Two Mid Century Futuristic Vintage Iron Chairs in Style of Willy Rizzo, Thonet
About the Item
This pair of chairs epitomizes space age design and the atomic era. They are influenced by Thonet's cantilever chair, and they are also reminiscent of the Marc Sabot--Willy Rizzo form.
In ebonized iron, they are mid 20th century, produced in America or by an International maker. The silhouette is irresistible. The chairs have a futuristic flair, especially the form. They recall furniture from the animated series, "The Jetsons" or another space age universe. The era coincides with a part of mid century, beginning with the space race in 1957. They are sleek and balanced with a masculine base and curved back that recalls the rings of Saturn. They are well designed and present very well.
With graduated rounded slat back, cantilevered frame and reupholstered in their original color and fabric in vinyl beige circular seats and newly reupholstered to vintage showroom condition.
The cushions are ample--wide and quite comfortable. The pieces are solid and well constructed, ready for use. Great design. Great fun.
They are 32 inches overall height, the seat height is 17 inches. They are 25 inches wide and 32 inches deep.
