Walter Lamb Rare Settee with Celebrity Provenance, Early Production, circa 1955

About the Item

This sculptural rare settee by Walter Lamb for Brown Jordan is an early production example which was originally purchased by and continually owned by Shirley Temple Black, which from her estate we acquired and then subsequently restored this incredible rare example of Walter Lamb's earlier works. This collectible example of functional Mid-Century Modern art is from the early years of Lamb's work with Brown Jordan, dating from the mid-1950s. This curvy, sexy Art Deco inspired loveseat sofa is comprised of a tubular copper frame featuring the original naturally occurring and highly attractive Verdigris patinated finish and has been newly re-strung with woven sail cord, a braided cotton with a nylon core to prevent stretching. This new cording retains the integrity of the design while allowing the lounger to be fully functional and enjoyed for years to come. In addition we fully restored the frame while keeping the beautiful original patina in-tact. The lower joints are where problems can occur so we welded these areas with copper, which is the type of tubing that was used in early production examples, and in these weld areas, patina will develop naturally and blend back in to the rest of the frame. This rare settee is truly a work of art. We also have other Walter Lamb designs including the S Chaise, Waikiki, armchairs, lounge chairs and ottomans, side tables, coffee and dining tables and sled chairs with corresponding ottomans. Measurements: 33.5" H x 68" W x 30" D Excellent restored condition with beautiful patina throughout. Seat newly restrung professionally with correct cording. Slight pitting to lower portion of base which has been cleaned and patina will restore over time. Copper weld marks visible where we strengthened the joints. These areas will patina with regular outdoor use and will blend in with the rest of the frame. Frame is sturdy and structurally sound. Ready for immediate use. Provenance, Estate of Shirley Temple. Upon purchase we will provide a certificate of authenticity and provenance to the buyer.
