Antique Annamese Green and Brown Glazed Ceramic Garden Seat on Shaped Base
About the Item
An antique 18th or 19th century Annamese ceramic garden seat from Vietnam with green and brown glaze, raised scrolling frieze, pierced top, guardian lion handles and shaped base. Made of ceramic and boasting a green glaze accented beautifully with brown, this Annamese garden seat is a great example of the long Vietnamese ceramic tradition, particularly in the Annam province, an area heavily influenced by - and once ruled - China. This garden stool, which was also used as a pedestal for a garden planter, features a circular silhouette, beautifully adorned with a raised scrolling frieze depicting foliage and flowers in its upper section. The piece showcases a circular top measuring 11 inches of diameter, pierced in the center with blue geometric motifs. The sides are also pierced for the handles and adorned with striking guardian lions. The body alternates green and brown glaze. With its lovely colors and subtle décor, this green and brown glazed garden seat will be a great addition to any garden, patio or foyer.
