17th Century Pair of French Louis XIII Period Carved Walnut Architectural Panels

About

A pair of French Louis XIII period carved walnut architectural panels with geometrical motifs from the first half of the 17th century. Each of this pair of French architectural panels features a perfectly organized decor, made of raised diamond motifs ("en pointe de diamants"), typical of the Louis XIII era. To avoid any monotonous repetition, the maker ingeniously alternated the size and shape of the motifs, however respecting a perfect symmetry between the lower and upper panel. This taste for geometry and organization can be extraordinarily contrasted with the Rococo taste for asymmetry that will dominate the Louis XV period in the second half of the 18th century. Meanwhile, with its linear silhouette and wonderful patina, this pair of Louis XIII architectural walnut panels, circa 1640 will be an exquisite decorative accent in any home, whether placed in a foyer, living room or dining room.
