Scottish Georgian Oak Torchere or Candlestand with Octagonal Top Tripod Base

About the Item

Scottish George III period Chippendale oak candlestand or torchere with octagonal low galleried top, tripod base with cabriole legs and pad feet. This handsome torchere with turned stem makes a great plant stand or a candelabra stand. It is possible that the top is a 19th century replacement; it is hard to tell as tops are often refinished more frequently than the rest of the table, particularly with candlestands where wax can drip to such an extent that refinishing becomes desirable. The feet used to have rollers, but those have been removed quite a long time ago. Circa 1780.
