Pair of Wedgwood & Bentley Agate Plant Pots

About the Item

A pair of plant pots covered in marbled brown glaze emulating agate gemstone encircled with checkered rims accented in gold, made circa 1770 by Wedgwood & Bentley in Staffordshire, England. Emulating the mesmerizing marbled surface of a precious gemstone, these Wedgwood agate ware plant pots expertly mimic a precious material on a quotidian object. The pots were made during the Wedgwood & Bentley period of the factory and, underneath the agate slip, feature a delicate creamware body, the material for which the company became famous. Dimensions: 3 3/8 in. H x 4 3/8 in. Dm Condition: Excellent. One pot with some hairline cracks on base around drainage hole. Traces of original gilding around checkered rims.
