Antique Stylish Copper and Brass Coal Kettle, Fire Extinguisher Fire Place Decor

About the Item

An elegant and very decorative copper fire place tool from the 1800s. This handcrafted, copper and brass kettle could only be afforded by the very well-to-do in the 1800s in Europe and in the Netherlands in particular. It would have taken a highly skilled craftsman many hours of hammering and welding to put all the pieces together. The 'wall' of this kettle is actually put together with dove tails that can only be seen if you look very closely. The solid brass pieces were first made of a different material after which molds would have been made, after that the casting could begin. The individually cast pieces would be removed of any sharp edges and finally they too would be polished and screwed on. All in all, a very time consuming process. However, looking at this stunning kettle, one can see that because of this long process of highly skilled labor, the quality and durability of this kettle is second to none. For those who did not know yet: before the owner of such a kettle went to bed, he or she would put the remains of the coals that heated the fireplace into this kettle. The lack of air inside would stop the coals from burning and the copper kettle could radiate some more warmth into a (bed)room. Coal was taken out of the fireplace, not only because coal was so expensive, but also because a burning or smoldering fire in a predominantly wooden house was obviously very dangerous. This handcrafted antique can single handedly change the look and feel of your fireplace, but nowadays it could also be used for other practical and decorative purposes. It is a real eyecatcher and also easy to carry around, because of the beautiful handle. This tactile antique is very well made and over the many, many decades its patina has only made it more beautiful. Mind you, perfect packing and worldwide delivery from our store to your door in just 4 days are complimentary. Maximum height x diameter (measured without the brass handle): 16.25 x 11.75 inches. • Rare Antique WMF Attr. Arts & Crafts Embossed Brass Coal Kettle /Firewood Bucket
    By WMF Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik
    Located in Lisse, NL
Large, decorative and top quality workmanship brass, copper and bronze bucket. This one is for the connoisseurs, because it ticks all the Arts and Crafts boxes. The first owner who would have had this piece custom made or who bought it from one of the best craftsman/manufacturers in the early Arts & Crafts era (1890-1900) simply had incredibly good taste. This likely German made antique is among the best workmanship pieces that you will ever see and both design and materials wise it is most likely made by WMF (who need no further introduction). The artisan metal worker who crafted this lidded bucket took things to a whole new level, because this is a true work of art and a statement piece of unsurpassed quality, size and detail. 'Casually' on display next to a fireplace or perhaps used as a planter or other type of bucket, the first owner was communicating that money was not an object and that he was a worldly individual. Especially 125 years ago this would have been a very rare and desirable, work of art bucket that only very few people could afford. Its perfect balance, its stunning embossed Arts and Crafts floral...
