Masons Ironstone Large Punch Bowl Made in England circa 1815

About

We are pleased to offer this large antique Masons Ironstone punch bowl is decorated with an overall pattern on the outside as well as the inside. This is a happy piece. The colors are joyous. The green is vibrant. On the outside of the bowl is a stylized rainbow colored butterfly flying above a colorful flower filled garden. Made in England 1813-1825 the bowl is impressed along the bottom edge with the mark "Mason's Patent Stone China". Background of Mason's Ironstone First made in the Regency period as a robust alternative to porcelain, Mason's Ironstone China was a great success due mainly to its attractive enameled decoration (see figure #4). A great variety of patterns appeared on Mason's Ironstone. Most of these patterns drew inspiration from Japanese porcelains of the 18th century, and were rendered in a palette of luminous enamel colors over a natural white ground.
