Mid-Century Decorative Platter by Albert Thiry 'circa 1960s'

About the Item

Mid-century decorative platter (circa 1960s) by Albert Thiry. A milky-white glaze graces both the exterior and the hollow centre. The interior has small tracts of green and earthy clay which surround a central medallion with face and flower motif. That circle is crowned with incised leaves. Both the medallion and the lip are tactile as a result of the decoration style. These markings and colouring are quintessential Albert Thiry. In very good vintage condition. Signed: 'Thiry' on base of dish. This gallery finds that Thiry's works are in demand more than ever in overdue recognition of his artistic creativity. Upon request a video of this piece will be provided. About the Artist: Albert Thiry (1932-2009) was born in Nice, France. His family moved to Vallauris where he spent most of the school holidays in the potteries; in 1956 he was taken on as an assistant decorator with an opportunity to make his own pieces. Albert and his wife, Pyot, set up their own pottery in 1961. Their standard production, in Vallauris clay with added grog to emphasise rusticity, resulted in delightful pieces both highly elaborate and utilitarian. Dimensions: Diameter 32 cm / 12.6" Height 6 cm / 2.4".
