Midcentury Pink and Gold Murano "Sommerso Bullicante" Murano Glass Italian Bowl

About the Item

Midcentury pink and gold Murano glass bowl or ashtray. This handmade item was produced in Italy during 1960 and it is attributed to Archimede Seguso. This piece is unique as made with the "Sommerso Bullicante" technique. “Sommerso”, which in Italian literally means “submerged” is a technique used to create several layers of glass inside a single object, giving the illusion of “immersed” colors that lay on top of each other without mixing. "Bullicante", which in Italian means "full of bubbles", means that the artist created inside the layers of glass a decoration made of small bubbles. The piece is abundantly covered in gold leaf.
