"Modern Times, " Brilliantly Glazed Art Deco Bowl with Scene of Steel Foundry

About the Item

Brilliantly glazed in jade green, canary yellow, midnight blue and lipstick red hues, this vivid Art Deco bowl features, at its center, a scene of steel production at a French foundry, including an enormous ladle holding molten metal. The rim of the bowl is marked by a circle of geometric forms, and the ceiling above the ladle is depicted as an abstracted series of planes in blue and purple, over which plumes of steam and smoke are rising. The famed Longwy ceramic works produced this bowl, clearly considering it a rare and important piece.
