"Spanish Galleon, " Romantic 1920s Bronze Sculptural Bowl with Ram's Head Feet
About the Item
A rare and impressive illustration of the fascination with sailing ships, Mediterranean Revival architecture, and Spanish decorative arts in the 1920s, this marvelous bowl-cum-sculpture features a grand Spanish Galleon overlooking a textured bowl with flaring rim, all in bronze with a deep, gorgeous patina. Although not marked, this piece may have been made by the Oscar Bach Studios, which crafted a wide range of decorative pieces for the home that showed a Spanish Revival influence. This bowl may have been designed for the hallway of a grand home, to receive the cards of visitors and perhaps a scarf or pair of gloves as residents came and went.
