About the Item

Swedish Folk Art Painted Wooden Bowl in the Allmoge Tradition, Mid-20th Century Charming Swedish folk art bowl in hand-painted wood, made in the allmoge tradition, likely dating from the mid-20th century. The bowl features a soft, matte base color in the classic muted allmoge blue, decorated with freehand floral and organic motifs in warm tones of brick red, ochre yellow, and shades of brown. The interior is richly adorned with a large, radiating central flower surrounded by smaller floral elements, while the rim is accentuated with rhythmic brushstrokes in matching colors. Along the outer sides, the painter has added delicate yellow and red strokes that echo the interior’s ornamentation, creating a continuous and balanced decoration. The hand-painted surface shows signs of age and use, which add to its authentic character and testify to the bowl’s history and handmade nature. A fine example of Swedish folk craftsmanship, combining decorative charm with rustic simplicity. Please see all images for details and condition. Dimensions: Diameter: 7.6 in (19.2 cm) Height: 2.6 in (6.7 cm) About the Allmoge Tradition: The allmoge style refers to the rural Swedish folk art tradition that flourished from the 18th to early 20th century, characterized by hand-painted wooden objects, floral motifs, and earthy color palettes. In the mid-20th century, many Swedish artisans revived this aesthetic as part of a renewed appreciation for national heritage and craftsmanship. Today, allmoge pieces are cherished for their warm, personal expression and timeless decorative appeal.
