Japonesque applied sterling silver bowl. Made by Whiting in New York, ca 1885. Curved and tapering; raised and spread foot. Chased and applied bamboo shoots as well as a beetle—a big bug with one leg hooked over the mouth rim. Supersized modish motif. Spot-hammered ground. Fully marked including maker’s stamp and no. 831. Weight: 18.6 troy ounces.
